Our 2022 Fundraising drive is officially under way. In case you missed it, below is the letter from our president and executive director. ( full text will appear below for screen reader accessibility.)
We are so grateful for all your generous support!
We at Meals on Wheels are very fortunate to have the support of such a caring community as the Greater Fredericton region, a community that has stepped up and walked with us every step of the way through the past two difficult years as we all faced the COVID-19 crisis.
Meals on Wheels has not only survived the pandemic so far, but we have grown! Last year we delivered more than 80,000 meals in the Fredericton area, operating 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with only occasional interruptions due to severe weather. We met the challenge of an 18% increase over the previous year’s meal deliveries, ensuring that the delivery of a warm, nutritious meal by our friendly volunteers continues to be an important component of the Aging in Place strategy being promoted in our Province.
At the same time, as a non-profit we are feeling the effects of the current economic climate. We are seeing a significant rise in operational costs as we strive to remain competitive in attracting and retaining adequate staffing. We also must navigate an environment of seriously increasing food costs. For these reasons, this year’s fundraising campaign is more vital than ever.
We are pleased to announce that the J.T. Clark Family Foundation has generously stepped up once again to support our work in the community and this year’s fundraising campaign. They have issued a challenge that we know we can achieve! When our goal of $50,000 is reached — thanks to the generosity of community members like you — they will match that amount with a $50,000 donation. The donation will only be made when we reach this target. The J. T. Clark Family Foundation’s inspired offer will help us meet the financial challenges we face so that Meals on Wheel can maintain an affordable meal cost for our cherished clients.
On behalf of our entire organization, and the hundreds of residents in our area who regularly depend on our services, thank you for your continuing support. With your help, we know we can continue to thrive, and to demonstrate the caring that is so typical of our community.
