Meals on Wheels opened our own kitchen because the growth in the demand for our services. Our kitchen opened on a trial basis in January of 2018, and we conducted a six-month pilot program; in June, we decided that the project was both practicable and desirable and began the process of expanding the project to fit our needs.

We believe that the kitchen is of adequate size to allow us to meet our needs for the foreseeable future. At present we are preparing about 40% of our meals ourselves, approximately 125 meals a day, Monday to Friday and 75 meals each weekend day. York Care and the DECRH continue to prepare the rest of the meals we need.

Each meal contains an appetizer, entrée, bread and dessert. We can provide meals to allow for most special dietary requirements such as diabetes, low sodium or cholesterol, low residue, gluten-free, celiac, and various mild allergies.
