Thanks to the help of a caring community, Meals on Wheels has not only survived the pandemic so far, we have even grown! In fact, during the month of August, we welcomed more new meal recipients than in any other month in our 54 year history. We know this growth is directly related to our aging population and to the overwhelming desire of vulnerable members of our community to remain in their own homes as long as possible. The delivery of a warm, nutritious meal by our friendly volunteers is one important factor in making this possible.
Last year we delivered more than 70,000 meals in the Fredericton area, operating 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with only occasional interruptions due to severe weather. We expect to exceed that number this year.
Like so many non-profit organizations in the community, the limitations imposed by the present environment have made it very difficult for us to conduct fund raising activities as we had in the past. The continued increase in the cost of food has placed additional pressure on our organization.
Your financial contribution will help us cover our increasing expenses, while keeping our meals affordable for our clients at a time when they need us more than ever. A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated, and you can be assured it will be put to use right here in our community.
